Well, things sure were good in 2011 but Gainline Africa is anticipating in 2012 things are going to get even better! Last year it was an eye-opening experience to see the dedication and commitment from students in Gulu town.
Rugby is becoming an alternative way for them to interact with each other, a way to build teamwork within the school and a way to develop confidence and self-esteem. With all the plans that lie ahead, we can already tell it’s going to be a great year and we can only build on the relationships we’ve made.
In partnership with the Gulu Rugby Football Club (GRFC) and local sponsors, Gainline Africa helped host the annual United for Education Gulu Schools Rugby Tournament in 2011. Attending the event for the 2nd year in a row let me see just how enthusiastic students are in northern Uganda. On the one-day event, 9 schools participated with 7 male teams and 3 girls teams. The day was filled with nail-biting moments but in the end there was only one winner announced in each category: St. Joseph’s College and Graceland Girls College.Recently, Graceland Girls College held an event to celebrate their achievements as tournament champions. As a new school in Gulu town, winning the rugby tournament was their first major achievement. It has brought the girls together both in the classroom and on the pitch.

We wanted to share some photos with you as they celebrated their success. As you can see this is more than just about rugby, and Gainline Africa is proud to be working with these students on empowerment, confidence and teamwork within their school and community!
